Standard drop ceiling tiles cost less than high-performance acoustic tiles and are a good fit for storage rooms, back-of-house areas, garages and rental spaces where sound control is not the priority. They still give full access to the equipment above, and they can be upgraded later, one tile at a time, without replacing the grid.

FAQ
Yes. Drop ceilings work well in garages, game rooms, media rooms and workshops, anywhere you want to hide pipes, ducts or wiring and keep them easy to reach. Textured and tegular tiles give a finished residential look.
It depends on the room. A suspended acoustic ceiling gives easy access to pipes, wiring and ductwork, absorbs much more sound and is quicker to repair, because you swap a tile instead of patching drywall. A drywall ceiling gives a smooth, seamless look and suits rooms where access is not needed, but it reflects sound and has to be cut open for repairs. Many buildings use acoustic tile in offices and corridors and drywall in lobbies and restrooms. More on drop ceiling.
